Before starting your dog on raw foods, consult an animal doctor and find out whether it is safe for your dog to have raw foods. Also find out how to create a balanced and nutritious food for your dog.
Select raw dog food with care and serve it only when fresh. Wash the raw food thoroughly. Ensure that the raw food is consumed within four to six days. Otherwise dispose it off. Do not mix old food with the fresh food in order to avoid any contamination.
Further, serve beans with great care since they cause gastrointestinal problems in some dogs. Do not serve any beans at all to deep chested dogs as they produce a kind of bloating which is life threatening to some dogs.
Feed your dog dairy products with care since some dogs do not tolerate lactose. If your dog can tolerate lactose then feed dairy products in small quantities. Otherwise, they may produce gas in dogs.
Take care not to feed your dog with spicy foods or citrus fruits. Feed tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and spinach in small quantities as they can cause a stomach upset or loose stools in your dog if fed in large quantities. Avoid feeding grapes and raisins in large quantities as they can cause kidney problems in dogs.
As you learn more about your dog’s preferences and understand how you can combine nutritious foods, you will find that it is easier to create new meals with raw dog food.
